Online Class... How is it going ?
Assalamualaikum and Hi. I hope everyone is doing fine. Welcome to another entry in my blog :D
Introduction
Prior to Conditional Movement Control Order (CMCO) triggered by the government for Selangor state, face-to-face learning has been called off and online based learning is being implemented. Therefore, I decided to return home and the journey of me going back to my home can be read here.
Reflection Online Learning
It has been 5 weeks since the start of online learning. As a student who never experience open and distance learning (ODL), I face many difficulties in coping it. In my personal opinion, the problem that really hit me a lot is the atmosphere. Compared to face-to-face learning, there is a lecturer standing or even a group are presenting in front of us. However, ODL offers virtual meeting which you just see their face. I don't know if it is just me or everyone feel like the vibe of study is not there. I feel like I'm just a person looking at the screen, watching presentation, hearing lectures and that's it. I can't feel the atmosphere of study running around me. Thus, it leads me to lose of focus during class and get easily bored. :(
Talking about focus, ODL also made me lose a lot of focus. To be honest, when you're in front of technology, you will tend to open social media like Instagram, Twitter, Youtube etc. rather than listening to lectures. It is a fact and I'm sure almost every students is like that. I also lose focus many times before because of the boredom. Therefore, I usually scroll through Facebook timeline. DONT DO THIS OKAY EVERYONE !
Last but not least, the internet connection issue also disturb me a lot. It not me who face connection issue. It is other people who face it such as the presenters and lecturers. But it affect my study because of their lagging voice. I couldn't hear the voice clearly thus leading me to miss few information. What if the information is really important ? It would be really a mess to collect all the information :<
HOWEVER, I also see ODL on the positive side for few reasons. Firstly, I can save my energy as much as possible. Compared to face-to-face learning. We need to go to lecture hall and it consumes a lot of energy if our hostel is far from the hall. During ODL, we just need to sit in front of device and all we need to do is to click here and there. All things that we need to can be done at the edge of fingers. That's what I like the most about ODL.
Secondly, it is easier for me to recall the learning that I had. I usually recorded my classes so that I can refer to it again for revision. For those who wanted to know how I record my class, I use Xbox Game Bar. Tutorial on how to use the application can be refer here.
Lastly, the mobility of ODL is really high. You can study everywhere with the emergence of ODL. Whether at home, car or other places, all you need to have is stable connection. So, if there is emergency occurs you still can enter class by opening Google Meet, Zoom etc. in your phone.
In a nutshell, ODL is a new method of learning nowadays. Whether we like it or not, we need to cope with it as it is the solution to prevent the spread of Covid-19 disease.
Till we meet again in the next entry. Adios amigos !
