Fourth Week of Semester 2

 Day : Wednesday

Date : 24/3/2021

Time : 10.10 a.m. - 11.00 a.m.

For this week lesson, we learnt about image file formats. Before I entered this class, I have a little knowledge about image file formats. I do acknowledge these formats but I didn't know that it is included as image file formats. As an example, I thought that PSD file is a formatting for that stands by itself. Actually, PSD file is also included as one of the image file format.

One new knowledge that I learnt during the class was about lossy vs lossless image. This knowledge is totally new to me as I only knew about image file format; not raster image. Therefore, personally I think that this is important for me to know because it can helps me when I take photo. I need to determine whether I need to take RAW format picture or just a normal JPG format picture. These different formats will have an impact on the quality of the photo.

Meanwhile, the theme of this week's challenge is Food Photography. After thinking a while, I decided to go for a simple food yet has bring impact to us. Therefore, I decided to have a tea and biscuit for my food photography. The reason why I did that is because tea and biscuit is a famous meal either during evening or breakfast. It is a meal that everyone could afford. Tea and biscuit also resemble calmness and harmony. Other than that, there are also many healthy benefits of drinking tea which you can read it here. Personally, I'm a tea lover and I agree that tea is easy to serve and have many healthy benefit. Therefore, that's the reason why I choose tea and biscuit for my food photography.

For the photography session, I took Dr. Shukri's advice carefully which he told us that it is better to have a natural lighting rather that lighting from the lamp. Therefore, I put my meal nearby to the window to get the natural lighting. I took the picture from many angles like high angle and overhead angle.

After taking many photos, I analyzed all those photos to determine which angle is the best. Therefore, I came out with the overhead angle photo because the position of the biscuits look better at overhead angle. Then, I started editing using Adobe Lightroom and adjust the exposure, highlight, sharpness and the colors. I decided to darken the photo a bit to make the biscuits look crispier and the tea looks tastier.

Final Photo

From this week's activity, I get to learn about the importance of taking good picture of food. Producing a good photo of food will influence many people to try the food as it looks very nice on the photo. Other than that, who knows if one day I opened a coffee shop I can use the knowledge that I gain during EDIT class to garner attention of public by producing tasty food photo. Overall, I enjoyed this week's class and can't wait for the next challenge.
