Ninth Week of Semester 2
Day : Wednesday
Date : 28/4/2021
Time : 10.00 a.m. - 11.50 a.m. (Synchronous Class)
For this week's lesson, we don't have an online meeting as Dr. Shukri had an event that he needs to attend. Therefore, he gave many informative notes through Google Classroom. The topic for this week is Silhouette. It can be described as one of the most popular themes in photography as it creates a sense of aesthetic mystery surrounding the subject and tells a story to be interpreted by the viewers. Actually, I do know this type of photography that capture the outline of the subject. However, I didn't knew that it is a type of photography called Silhouette. Therefore, as usual, every week I gain new knowledge. From my point of view, I do like Silhouette because it is out from the normal photography. It requires light from the back to produce a good subject outline. Therefore, for me, it is a challenging photography but if you manage to get the concept right, the outcome would be top notch.
Dr. Shukri also gave another notes regarding applications to enhance our photos. Those apps that Dr. Shukri mentioned are Adobe Lightroom, Snapseed and VSCO. Before this, I've used all those apps. However, I'm not a big fan of Snapseed. The reason is that I have many premium presets that I've bought at VSCO. Meanwhile, Adobe Lightroom let me change the colour tone that can't be changed if you use VSCO that don't have membership.
For the weekly challenge, the theme is Silhouette. I find that it is difficult to do because the weather is always gloomy nowadays. So, the sunlight doesn't help much to do the Silhouette photography. Nevertheless, I tried indoor photography using portable light. Picture below is the outcome.
Transformers action figure. Edited using VSCO.
After the weather is sunny, I immediately went out for outdoor shooting with my friend. He is my subject. I went to look for an angle that doesn't have many disruptions. This is because it will disturb the outcome of the photo. The outcome is the photo below. Rather than using B&W, I tried to go fancy by editing it to has a fantasy look.
Also, I used the Ultra Wide lens from my iPhone 11 to capture a candid-like photo of the subject. It tells a story of a man capturing the beauty of panoramic view.
Edited using VSCO.
Lastly, I submitted an old photo of me last year having vacation at Pulau Tioman. During the sunset, I found that it is really cool to take picture of me flipping my hair from inside of water. So, the outcome is the picture below.
Unedited.
That's it for this week's reflection. The challenge is really fun because I haven't take Silhouette photo for a while. So, with proper guide from Dr. Shukri, I was able to capture a good Silhouette photo.
