First Week of Semester 1 Session 2021/2022

Time : 9.00 am – 11.50 am

                I was nervous but quite excited to join the first class of this semester. When I joined the class, I heard a background music played by Sir Imran. It is a small act but I was impressed with it. I felt that this is ‘the class’. So, when Sir Imran started with introduction. I became more impressed with the style of him handling the session. He continues playing background music and I like it so much because the music is calming. So, the vibe wasn’t gloomy at all. Instead, I felt excited to go through the lesson.

                After a 10 minutes break, the actual lesson started with the topic The Impact of Multimedia on Teaching and Learning. Multimedia can be defined as the use of a variety of artistic or communicative media. It also means that it is a form of communication that combines various type of content forms such as text, audio etc. Multimedia can be used in various field; including education. From the lesson, I’ve learnt that there are four scenario model of Pedagogical Scenario Model proposed by Andresen (1999). From the scenario, there would also be three forms of interactivity such as reactive, proactive and mutual interaction. Then, I also learnt the five elements of multimedia which are text, image, audio, video and animation. Last but not least, Sir Imran made a discussion session about the impact of multimedia on teaching and learning. Also, a discussion about the future of multimedia in education.

                From this week’s lesson, I’ve gained many valuable lessons. As an example, I used to be familiar with the term multimedia. However, I didn’t know the exact meaning of multimedia. Also, I’ve also gained many valuable inputs from the discussion. I feel that multimedia plays a crucial part on teaching and learning. The greater the usage of multimedia, the more interactive a class will be. It is because multimedia gives a fresh breath to teaching and learning session. Old school type of teaching and learning session will just be a teacher write on whiteboard and students learn from there. With the usage of multimedia in teaching and learning, student will not feel bored and it can make the class feel lively. Just like Sir Imran played music in background, it gives a fresh feeling so the student won’t feel bored.

                Overall, this week’s learning session was exciting. However, I still don’t know how to utilize multimedia in teaching and learning. I hope it can be answered throughout the semester. I want to remind myself to always be ready for the lesson in various aspect; especially technical aspect. I need to have a smooth processing laptop so that I can do assignment of this course smoothly. That’s it for this week’s reflection. I’m really looking forward to next week lesson.
